Knitting Lessons & Workshops

This class is taught in two parts, one class each week for two consecutive weeks. Each class is on and a half hours long. 

Session #1: Students learn how to make a slip knot, cast on and the knit stitch. 

Session #2: Students learn how to make the purl stitch and bind off.

 

Classes are taught in person at Yarn Together and do not include needed materials. Students can purchase class supplies at Yarn Together for a 5% discount.

With 15 years of experience as an elementary educator, Carmen has designed the child beginner knitting lessons into small sessions so students are not overwhelmed, but can process new stitches over time. The lessons described below should be scheduled about a week apart. This allows time for students to practice between sessions. 

Session #1, 60 minutes: Cost $30

Students learn how to make a slip knot, cast on, and knit stitch. During this lesson students learn about the importance of holding tension and discover what method for holding the yarn works best for them. 

Session #2, 45 minutes: Cost $20 

If a student wishes to continue, during lesson 2, progress from previous lesson will be checked and the student will learn how to make the purl stitch.

This design by Lindsey Faciene from The Chesapeake Needle, on Ravelry, features a beautiful chevron lace stitch that reminds Lindsey of cute little owls ("chouette" means owl in French!) The pattern may look intimidating, but it's simple to work and easy to memorize. It has beautiful drape and is breathable, but still cozy, making it the perfect piece to wear from fall to winter.

Needed Materials:

*140-150 yds worsted weight yarn. (We used less than one hank of Plymouth Select for the sample on display at the shop)

*Pattern/ Free on Ravelry

*Size US4 (3.5mm) 24" circular needle

*Stitch marker (Optional)

*Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
